10 Days of You – Day Three

I’m writing you to catch you up on places I’ve been

And you have this letter – you probably got excited, but there’s nothing else inside it
Didn’t have a camera by my side this time
Hoping I would see the world through both my eyes
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I’m in the mood to lose my way with words

-John Mayer, 3×5

Here’s Day Three of the ’10 Days of You’ Challenge.

Six Places:

1. The Panorama of the City of New York – Queens Museum, New York City
This might just be my favorite spot in all of NYC. If you live in the city and have never been to The Panorama, shame on you! It is essentially a miniature version of the five boroughs. It was built in 1964 for the World’s Fair, and has almost 900,000 individual structures. They even show you the city at night. My favorite part as a child was always the little tiny planes taking off & landing (with some help from fishing wire of course) at miniature versions of LGA and JFK.

2. The St. Julien – Boulder, Colorado
The St. Julien is one of the most amazing and luxurious hotels I have ever stayed in. Everything from the linens on the bed, to the shower, to Jill’s, the in-house restaurant … they really know how to relax you. Oh and there’s a spa there, too. A great night’s sleep.

3. Goshen, New York
I was born in Queens, but in many ways I also consider Goshen to be my hometown. I went to junior high and high school there and lived there for 10 years before college and moving back into the city. It is such a beautiful and picturesque town … makes you feel like you’re back in a different era when you walk around in the village.

4. El Convento – San Juan, Puerto Rico
El Convento is seriously one of the coolest spots in all of San Juan … it was a convent in the 1400s and is now a luxury hotel and restaurant. It’s right in the middle of the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan. Lunch in its courtyard, especially the frozen cocktails, is delicious.

5. Uncommon Objects – Austin, Texas
I was only able to spend about an hour in this store a couple of years ago, but I have longed to go back ever since. Imagine a giant store expertly filled with aisles and aisles all of the coolest vintage and antique pieces you’ve ever seen … that’s Uncommon Objects. I’m going back this fall and I cannot wait.

6. Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos – Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
I had a really incredible vacation in Cabo several years ago, and the Fiesta Americana resort there was really stunning. The food was so fresh and delicious, the accommodations were really luxe, and there is nothing like a Mexico sunrise. Best vacation I’ve ever had.

7. Pippin – New York City
I know I’ve mentioned Pippin on here before … it might just be one of my favorite stores in NYC. I collect vintage costume jewelry, so this place is pretty much the mothership. Browsing their drawers and drawers of vintage pieces just makes me happy.

8. Horsefeathers – Tarrytown, New York
Horsefeathers is a great little spot in Westchester County, just blocks off of the Hudson River. It has really dark, heavy wood, shelves of old books, murals of writers on the walls, candlelight, and amazing gastropub fare served on tin plates.
