What NYC Recessionista Wears: Dots and lace

Yesterday, I felt like experimenting by layering one of my new tops over one of my long-time favorites from my closet.

Vintage pearl earrings c/o mom (similar) / J. Crew polka dot shirt (similar) / LOFT lace top / J. Crew Factory belt (similar) / wishbone bracelet c/o Julep / bracelet c/o Ann Taylor spring 2013 / Anthropologie bracelet (similar) / LOFT skinny pantsJ. Crew boots (similar here and here)

I definitely recommend giving this a whirl with one of your button-downs at home — try buttoning the top button for a change, and then layer a short-sleeve blouse over it.

I feel like the only thing missing from the outfit is a really great statement / bib necklace. Don’t you think?

I also ended up throwing on a J. Crew belt that I already had in my closet from last year … who would’ve guessed it would be a perfect color match?

Ever wonder what to do with a belt that’s too big or too long? I hate it when the end is flapping around, so I tie it in a knot like so — just loop it under and then over, and pull it through into a knot.  Tighten in and it will stay down and in place the whole day!
