Last night, I was thrilled to be invited to the bareMinerals Shade Shop down in SoHo to get a sneak peek of their latest product, Complexion Rescue, before it hits stores. Readers of this blog know that I am a long-time lover of all things bareMinerals … I’ve been using that and only that for a decade now, and I swear by the stuff. But their new product might just take the cake.
Now, first off, you need to visit the Shade Shop in SoHo if you live in the area and have not done so already. I’ve seen a lot of stores in my day, but this space is incredibly warm and inviting. Right when you walk in, there is a wall of gorgeous, untouched photos of real women in their foundation, showing their real beauty shining through.
Another awesome thing about the Shade Shop is that it’s smartly organized by complexion, so each customer knows they’re in a zone that’s tailored just for them.
The Shade Shop has a totally laid back, chill California vibe …
I even got to play with their new
Modern Pop Collection, which I’m already obsessing over.
Now, about Complexion Rescue — it’s a tinted, hydrating gel cream that feels like nothing else I’ve ever tried before. It almost feels like you’re putting fresh morning dew on your face. It’s completely luxurious. It provides very light, illuminating coverage.
But the most eye-opening thing about the event was a demonstration I watched, comparing Complexion Rescue side-by-side with the average tinted moisturizers and alphabet creams. The other products left behind a gross, globby residue, and floated there like an oil spill … it was disgusting.
Meanwhile, Complexion Rescue, which is free of silicones, oils, parabens and fragrances, dissolved completely into the water because it’s made with water. No wonder I broke out in acne the last time I tried that other crap.
I am telling you — you’re going to want to try it when it comes out on January 22nd!
This is me, back at my apartment hours later, not wanting to wash it off my face.

I just felt so dewy and fresh, especially considering this was taken at 11 p.m. And I have eczema. And it’s winter in New York City. My complexion definitely needs rescuing on a daily basis.
Luckily, that life vest now comes in a shiny tube from bare Minerals.
Editor’s note: When I attended this event, I was given Complexion Rescue to try for myself, but I have not otherwise been compensated for this post.
Wow! I just saw this in an email from Ulta and am so intrigued. I like to even out my complexion, but have really dry skin. I might just have to try this.
