My favorite makeup right now is actually a brand I first discovered back in 2017, and have just recently returned to using it: RMS Beauty! And right now for a limited time, RMS Beauty is 20% off at Nordstrom.
For those who might be new around here, I have very dry and sensitive skin, but my current skincare routine (which I will be sharing very soon!) combined with using RMS Beauty every day has made a significant difference in how my skin both looks and feels. The dry, flaky patches are gone and my skin feels soft and supple. I’m breaking out less, and I feel like I look bright-eyed and awake now when I look in the mirror.
To give you a little background, RMS Beauty was started by Rose-Marie Swift, a makeup artist for over 35 years who wanted to give women a healthy, organic makeup brand after discovering how many toxic chemicals are hiding in the makeup we use every day. So she created products that contain things like raw minerals, coconut and jojoba oils, cocoa and shea butters, bees wax and Vitamin E. They are also cruelty-free, which I have been really committed to using in recent years.
They’ve also added a bunch of new products in the time since I first tried it, so I wanted to give y’all an updated look at my routine and my favorite makeup in the whole world.
Un Cover-Up Concealer in ’00’ – I’m back to using this as both my foundation and concealer, and it’s life-changing. I am sure that I’m not alone in this, but the pandemic completely changed my makeup preferences. I used to cover my entire face — including my freckles – with foundation that looked caked on. But now that I mostly work from home and have spent so much time focusing on skincare, that much makeup just feels insanely heavy. I mainly apply this product to the spots where I normally have redness (which has also been decreasing!), and to lighten the dark circles under my eyes. And this product blends into my skin so well that it doesn’t even look like I am wearing anything. And you can still see my freckles! You can totally apply this with your fingers but they do have a great foundation brush if you prefer using one.
Dimension Hydra Powder Blush – this is one of their newest products and I’m totally in love with it. I love the multi-dimensional color (I picked the shade ‘Sangria’) and how smooth it feels for a powder. It blends perfectly into the skin and has the perfect glow. They have a blush brush that works really nicely, too. PS – They also have a cream blush that’s fantastic if you prefer that formula over powder — and they double as a lip color. I’ve used it before and even applied it with my fingers.
Champagne Luminizer – This stuff is magical … I put it along the tops of my cheekbones as a highlighter, on my cupid’s bow, down the bridge of my nose, under the tails of my eyebrows, and right by the inside corners of my eyes. It gives me the perfect glow and just makes me feel awake and alert. I love the rose gold shade, too. PS – unfortunately Nordstrom doesn’t seem to have the Champagne Rose Luminizer at the moment, but Living Luminizer and Magic Luminizer are also amazing.
Un Powder – this is their setting powder to lock in your makeup for the day. It has a very luxurious feel to it and is very soft. You almost don’t feel like you’re putting anything on — that’s how fine the powder is. Oh and a little goes a long way! You can use the puff it comes with to apply, or any wispy soft brush. PS – Nordstrom only has the tinted formulas at the moment, but you can find the translucent formula here.
Beauty Oil – I put this on every day right after splashing some warm water on my face and before starting my makeup routine. My skin just drinks it up — it feels so nourishing and luxurious. And it’s also great to use as a primer with the other RMS Beauty products. My skin used to feel so dry and irritated all the time, but now that I’m using this paired with my new skincare routine, it feels so soft and supple. PS – if you’re looking for another primer option, they’ve got a brand new one that’s also awesome.
Eyelights Cream Eyeshadow – This is probably my favorite makeup new arrival of theirs — they are incredible eyeshadows! The application is so easy (you can use your fingers, like a lot of RMS Beauty products) or a brush, and it’s buildable and has the best metallic shimmer to it. So far, I have the shades ‘Blaze’ — which is somewhere in between a mauve and a lavender — as well as ‘Strobe’ — which has more of a grayish vibe to it — and ‘Flare’ which is a gorgeous gold. They don’t budge during the day (I find they work even better without any primer) but yet they come off easily with makeup remover.
Straight Up Volumizing Peptide Mascara – Another one of my favorite new products of theirs! This mascara is awesome. It really lengthens, lifts, and curls my lashes nicely. And no clumping! It’s so hard to find good clean mascaras but this one is really great. And it doesn’t smudge or flake during the day. I’m also really loving their Straight Line Kohl Eye Pencil.
